P1: 100th School Day Ceremony cum Tea Dedication Ceremony

Every year, the parents of P1students are invited to the “100th School Day Ceremony” and send their good wishes to their children. A “Tea Dedication Ceremony” is also held so that P1students can dedicate some tea and DIY gifts to their parents as a way to express their gratitude for parents’ love and care.

P4: Nature Experience Camp

The annual Nature Experience Camp is a 2-day-1-night event. Students learn to “appreciate nature, experience tranquillity and connect to life”.

P5: Educational Camp

P5 students joined a 3-day-2-night educational camp at Suen Douh Camp. They learned to take care of themselves, work with other people, engage in in-depth communication, live alongside nature, and become knowledgeable about the Gospel and our Heavenly Father who created the heavens and the earth.

P5 Project-based Study: Love your Neighbours

The school collaborated with the Hong Kong Society for the Aged and organised home visits to elders living alone and community centres for the elderly. Through different forms of interactions with the elders, such as chitchat, playing games, performances and practising “Tai Chi”, not only did our students show their love to the senior citizens, they also learned to cherish their elder members at home.

P6: Rich and Poor’s Banquet

The school jointly organised the “Rich and Poor’s Banquet” with Oxfam. P6 students would learn more about the global food supply problem, thus, care about the world, and be grateful for and cherish the things they have.

P1 to P6: Orbis Blindfold Lunch

The event was participated by all students. They have to experience the difficulties faced by people with visual impairments. Students donated to Orbis to help the visually impaired with the operations they need.

Christmas Service

The school has a Christmas service in December every year. By carol singing and preaching the gospel, students learn to understand what Christmas is truly about.

Easter Service

The school has an annual Easter service, during when students can reflect on the true meaning of Easter and learn about God’s salvation.

Language Activities

Chinese Language Activities

The subject of Chinese Language took advantage of the Potential Unlocking Session and organised many language games, including some festive activities such as the Mid-Autumn Festival Lantern Fair and lucky red banners (fai chun) writing activity. These activities not only added a festive atmosphere to the campus, but also enabled students to experience Chinese culture. Besides, the school also organises several competitions to uncover students’ potentials and nurture their diversified development. One example is the improvised public speaking competition.

Given the short preparation time, students are required to prepare and deliver their speeches in front of their fellow classmates based on the designated topics.

That is an excellent training for developing their critical thinking and speaking skills.

Junior grade students, on the other hand, join the Joy of Writing Workshop; and senior grade students take part in the Chinese Scholar Challenge Scheme. We hope that these diversified language activities could improve students’ competence and knowledge in the language.

Mid-Autumn Festival Lantern Fair – on top of adding a festive atmosphere to the campus, the event also enabled our students to experience the Chinese culture.

中秋提燈會──活動除了增添節日氣氛,亦讓同學可以體驗中國文化。

Mr. Riley Wonderland

My name is Clive Riley. I come from South Africa and have 15 years of experience teaching English in Asia. Over my year at CNEC Ta Tung School, I have had the opportunity to teach and grow with the students and my fellow colleagues. I have seen the students grow in confidence and become more open and comfortable with using English. We learned about many things such as weather, occupations, and describing pictures. It has been a very wonderful year. I look forward to continuing working with all the staff and parents helping our students on their English learning journey.

English Language Activities@Tai O Tour

This visit provided an extension of learning beyond the textbook. The P.5 students could really visit this old fishing village after reading about it on the textbook. In order to let students widen their exposure, we invited professional tour guide and even the real shrimp paste maker to explain to our students. Moreover, students could learn one of the Chinese culture, Kung Fu, with a Shaolin monk. To make this visit more meaningful, a group of reporters, leaded by our NET, were reporting the tour alongside. The other students would make up their own project book to describe the visit.

Language Activities

English Language Activities@English Drama

English drama is an excellent vehicle to imrpove students’ English communication skills and cultivate their interest in drama. It also strengthens their concentration and team spirit. By joining competitions and performances, students become more confident and their horizons are broadened.

Language Activities

English Language Activities@Readers' Theatre (讀戲劇場)

Readers’ Theatre gives a real reason for students to read aloud. They learn to read in different tones and voices. The students “performed” by reading the scripts created from the storybook – the Gruffalo. To make it more enjoyable, we included games and songs to the theatre. It turned out to be a success when everybody involved actively and enjoyed the show. Most important of all, they have more confidence in speaking English.

STEM Activities

S = Science (Science Knowledge)

“Butterfly x STEM”

Sponsored by Green Power and Shell Hong Kong Limited, we have set up a butterfly garden at the schools’ roof top. A wide range of nectar plants are grown here to attract butterflies to stay and to lay eggs. A natural ecology is successfully built in our campus. Our students conducted a series of project-based studies about butterflies. They observed the growth pattern of the butterflies, learned about their physical changes and studied the relationship between the environment and butterflies’ growth. To conclude their learning, our students presented their findings to the public in a shopping mall. Their research earned them the third place in the “Butterfly x STEM Primary School Educational Programme”. They were all thrilled and honoured when they received the trophy from Mr KS Wong, the Secretary for the Environment.

Balloon powered cars

From material collection to the actual production, our students are the masterminds behind this activity. They enjoyed thoroughly throughout the production of their balloon powered cars and the competition process. We hope to unleash students’ creativity through STEM activities while helping them to learn more about the scientific principles behind.

STEM Activities

T = Technology (Technological Living)

Community Adventure

A school-based community adventure platform was developed by our school in collaboration with the company EDU DYNANMIX. Students ventured outside of the classroom and approached their community, using iPads for onsite field study. They took pictures, recorded videos, as well as conducted interviews to collect first-hand information to learn about the need of our community. Proposals were made based on their findings.

STEM Activities

E = Electronics (Engineering Discovery)

Closed-circuit powered boat

Students created these “closed-circuit powered boats” based on the data they had collected. Through the activity, they learned about the principles of battery operation and tried to sail their boats in the “ocean”. Our students enjoyed the process of building their boats and competing with their peers.

STEM Activities

M = Mathematics (Calculations)

Training for Math Olympiads

The school’s Math Olympiad team won numerous awards in the regional and Hong Kong-wide competitions. In this year’s Pan-Asia Pacific International Mathematics Competition, the number of awardees hit a record high with 166 awardees. P6 students won the second place in the group category. As the Math Olympiad team members received the applause from their fellow schoolmates and strived to achieve an even higher goal, their passion, confidence and persistence towards learning maths are also increased.

Mathematics and health

Through learning the capacity of different containers, measuring the volume using measuring cups and studying the unit of capacity, students will cultivate a healthy habit of drinking water.

Mathematics and everyday life

The school hopes that students can apply the mathematical knowledge they acquired in class to their everyday lives. For instance, P1 students are brought to the supermarket. They got to make their purchases using coins and calculate the sum of the products and the remaining. In addition, through this shopping activity, students develop an awareness of healthy eating. They also learn how to protect our environment and be rule-abiding citizens. The school also encourages students to learn how to make good use of their time –24 hours in a day. Students are asked to plan the rundown for a friend’s birthday party, so that everyone attending can enjoy a variety of activities and have a great time.

Mathematic Adventure

To stimulate students’ interest in mathematics and improve their problem solving skills, the school organises the mathematic adventure. Various math problems are posted around the campus and students are invited to form groups of 4 to 5 to collaboratively solve these problems.

Art Activities

Ta Tung Sunshine Choir

Founded in 2016, “Ta Tung Sunshine Choir” grew from a 10-member team to a choir with 30 members. Mr. Cheung Ka Shing, the school’s music consultant, a renowned harmonica instrumentalist and the chairman of our Alumni Association, is the conductor of the choir, while Mr. Ng Ping Kwan plays Chinese zheng for the choir.

大同陽光合唱團恆常練習

At the invitation of the TVB Jade channel, “Ta Tung Sunshine Choir” performed multiple times in the show “Cultural Engine 4U”. The choir also performed in various community events and visited a primary school in Malaysia for music exchange. Students’ horizons are broadened through these memorable experiences.

Musical Seeds Programme

The school’s Musical Seeds Programme is a connected narrative about musicians and various stories. Through introducing different musical instruments, P1 and P2 students enjoy taking part in interactive and delightful music activities. We hope our children can discover an interest in learning musical instruments, experience the beauty of music and be inspired to be creative from their junior grade years.

Instrumental Music

In terms of music education, the school has created many opportunities for learning musical instruments. For instance, the weekly instrument lessons allow students to learn both Chinese and Western instruments. Our students can also take part in orchestra trainings and enjoy the fun of playing music as a group.

Painted chairs

Every Tuesday during the Potential Unlocking Session, students in charge of the “Painted Chairs” project all waited in excitement and rushed to the rooftop garden when it was time to paint and draw. They upcycled old chairs and turned them into colourful decorations for the campus.

“Youth Integrity Fest” collaborative art project

In the “Youth Integrity Fest” collaborative art project organised by ICAC, students made art with recycled CD-ROMs. The activity not only inspired students to treasure resources and be environmentally responsible, but also encouraged students to be morally upright and honest persons.

Sports Activities

Sports Activities

Hip Hop Dance

The school’s hip hop dancing team was founded in 2015 for all P1 – P6 students. Interested candidates must undergo a two-week training before the instructors select a total of 50 team members. Students are divided into the junior team (who have danced for 1 year or less) and the senior team (who have danced for 2 or more years). By learning about the culture of street dance, our students can enjoy music and learn to make good use of their body movements. They also develop confidence and a sense of responsibility through practices and performances. The hard work of the street dance team paid off. They won several important awards in recent years. For example, they clinched the “Class 1 Award” and the “Class 1 Honour Award” in “HK Street Dance Children’s Championship” and the “6th Hong Kong Primary School HIPHOP Dance Contest”, respectively.

Sports Activities

Swimming Classes

In June and July each year, the school organises swimming classes at the Lai Chi Kok Park Swimming Pool in Mei Foo for P1 and P2 students. Experienced swimming coaches not only teach students the swimming techniques, but also train their physical fitness, so that they could enjoy learning, learn happily and grow up healthily.

Enrichment Activities Showcase

The Enrichment Activities session was an active attempt that encourages students to take part in various activities so that each and every child are able to discover what interests them, learn about their own strengths and develop their potentials in full. We hope children would find these activities rewarding and feel accomplished, confident and enriched. The school also keeps providing opportunities for students to demonstrate what they have learned, appreciate one another and grow with one another in love.
